Human love points beyond itself to something extraordinary and ineffable.
This is not to nullify human love, but to say that it finds its home and ground and fulfilment and source in the divine life – that is, the life of God. This IS to say that human love refracts the divine; it is itself somehow a gracious touching point of this deeper reality.
This Love, although embodied by others, is not ultimately dependent on their presence. It is, nevertheless, more than able to fill every fissure and fibre – and to heal and reconcile broken things.
This just seems to be what Love does.
